Product Spotlight:Clip-Right® nail clippers

Innovative Nail Clippers Transform Grooming

Clipping your nails is one of those tasks that never gets much thought or attention until you experience nail problems that could have been averted with proper nail care.  Nails require proper care so they can do their job of protecting fingers and toes from injury.  Fingernails grow 2-3 millimeters every month and toenails 1mm.  Failure to keep nails trimmed properly can result in severe pain when they tear or break.  Properly trimmed nails are normally stronger and more resilient that longer nails.

The benefits of well trimmed nails are many. You can avoid injury or catching your nails on clothes and damaging them.  Shorter nails are less susceptible to bacteria, disease and infection.  Shorter nails won't scratch another person when you touch them and if you work on a computer keyboard of any kind you know how troublesome longer nails can be.  Even certain musical instruments such as piano or string instruments require shorter nails to play properly.

As with any type of personal care  some people keep their nails in better condition than others.  Those that put off nail trimming often report dissatisfaction with the way nail clippers work.  Standard nail clippers can be difficult to use for many people including children, the elderly, and those with poor vision or other physical challenges.  Clippers with pressure levers at the back of the device can be harder to position at the nail, can easily slip off the the fingers and are generally more awkward to operate.

For over a hundred years inventors have been searching for ways to improve nail clippers.  Now one is here.   A brand new style of nail clipper: Clip-Right®, that features an inverse pressure lever.  This new system places the point of pressure to clip the nail at the front of the clipper, over the blade instead of the back, providing a higher level of stability and accuracy when clipping nails.

Not only is the inverse pressure system more stable and accurate but it also operates better in your hand than standard nail clippers.  With the old design the clipper hangs out over your fingers when pressure is applied, and the lever can slide off to the side  However with the new Clip-Right® design the clipper sits inside your palm for a more ergonomic feel and operation, and the inverse pressure lever does not rotate from side to side.

It may seem all too much to make note of a technical change in such a small item, however when one considers that billions of people clip their nails every day, this type of advancement can affect millions.

For elderly people who experience problems squeezing typical nail clippers due to arthritis or muscle fatigue Clip-Right®'s design provides additional leverage for squeezing and aligning the nail clipper to your nail correctly.

If you suffer from tremors or if you must use your less favored hand to operate your clippers for any reason you will find the Clip-Right® inverse levered system provides a larger tab to clip with and a more stable action that you'll find easier to use.

The rounded face of the clipper allows you to allows you to clip around the sides of your nails more easily. And the stainless steel construction helps maintain cleanliness and durability.

Clipping nails is one of those personal chores that usually doesn’t get a second thought, yet someone found a way to improve on the traditional way of doing it. Now it's here at pricing similar to that of most good quality nail clippers.

Currently the Clip-Right® nail clipper is available through Amazon.com with more retail locations to follow. More information is at clip-right.com

Benefits of Cuticle Oil

Well-manicured hands are part of a good grooming regimen. Cuticles can dry, crack and split, the result of harsh weather and drying dish soaps. Daily care with cuticle oil can help restore the delicate area of the cuticle back to health. Some cuticle conditions are an indication of illness that should be assessed by a doctor or other health care professional, according to MayoClinic.com.

Cuticle oil can help nourish dry cuticles. Different oils can replace lost nutrients and fill in cracks with emollients. Jojoba oil is similar to the skin's natural sebum and will replace lost oils or dissolve excess oils, according to an April, 2001 issue of CBS Money Watch Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine. Certain oils when applied to the cuticle also can balance skin, treat infections and help heal the skin, according to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.

Moisturizing

Cuticle oil moisturizes the cuticle and parts of the nail, which keeps the cuticle from drying out and cracking. MayoClinic.com recommends moisturizing the cuticle several times a day, especially after washing your hands or when your hands have been immersed in water. Apply cuticle oil in evening before bedtime and wear cotton gloves to help the oil soak into the cuticle during the night.

Protecting

Paronychia is a skin infection around the nails. It can result from trimming the cuticles too short or cracks in the cuticle from excess dryness. Bacterial infection can cause red, swollen areas around the nail at the cuticle, according to the National Institutes of Health. Hangnails and injury to the cuticle can enable bacterial infection to occur rapidly. Paronychia can be painful; pus-filled blisters can appear at the site of infection.

Cuticle oil reduces the possibility of bacterial paroncychia by keeping the cuticle moist, preventing hangnails and dry cracked cuticles. Using cuticle oil that has anti-bacterial properties will stop infection before it starts. The National Institutes of Health recommends keeping the cuticles moisturized; practice proper care for cuticles and nails and do not cut or use cuticle removers. Cuticle removers can damage the skin around the nail and provide an entry point for bacteria and fungi.

Nail Sheild Application Troubleshooting and Tips

  • Use a higher grade alcohol such as a 91% Isopropyl over a lower %.
  • Use a nail dehydrator.
  • When removing polish, stay away from removers with a lot of conditioner in them. Use an acetone polish remover.
  • Do not touch the back of the shield too much.
  • Heat is your best friend! Heating the shield really good makes it more pliable and easier to work with. I like using a small personal ceramic heater from Walmartcalled My Heat by Lasko.
  • Heat the shield then use the rubber end of the cuticle pusher to seal edges and to help remove creases.
  • Make sure none of the shield is touching to skin or cuticle. This can cause the shield to peel.
  • Before cutting the shield, heat and then stretch the shield over the free edge.
  • After cutting the shield flush with the free edge with scissors, heat the shield then use a piece of plastic and wrap around the nail and pull the plastic over the free edge to seal the free edge better and to help smooth the shield.
  • Wait until the shield is completely cooled before filing the shield flush with the free edge. Use a downward motion.
  • Use a finer file (280/320 grit) over a coarser file when filing the shield at the free edge area.
  • Also use a buffer block to smooth edges.

  • If you have any other tips and tricks for nail sheild application, please feel free to comment.
